Unique tile work Is currently seeing a revival - blending artistic expression with functional design. Homeowners are looking to express their individuality and style through tile selections In the home. Tile offers patterns, colors, and shapes that allow for true customization that makes a space feel one-of-a-kind. Whether you are remodeling a bathroom, designing a new kitchen backsplash or Installing floor tile In an entry way, the tile can set the tone. Let's take a look at a few different varieties:
Cement Tile
Cement tile offers pops of color and cool patterns to add a unique look to any space. For areas that get more traffic, it's usually recommended to seal well to protect against stains and moisture. Cement tiles are typically a lower cost option at the forefront making it a desirable option to update your space.
One thing to note about cement tile - it does require quite a bit of upkeep. It is a porous material and even with sealer will show spots and stains. In general this is part of the "patina" process - over time this aging process is what gives the tiles character- however it should be considered if using in a room with high foot traffic!

Zellige and Ceramic Tile
Zellige and Ceramic tiles are often grouped together because they are both made of clay and fired in a kiln. While similarly made, zellige and ceramic can produce very different end results.
Zellige are often coveted because of their rich color and dimensional surfaces. Zellige are handmade which means no two tiles are alike. Using zellige creates an organic and artisnal look.
Ceramic tiles, while made similarly, are machine cut and glazed resulting In a more uniform appearance. Ceramic tile can be used almost anywhere and are typically a bit more budget friendly, as they are machine made rather than handcrafted.
One thing to note about zellige tile - natural variations and small chips are what we love about this tile. However - not all homeowners are going to love this! I've had clients look through a box of zellige and think - this entire box is damaged! Of course a huge crack or chip might be something to toss, but in general these variations in size and form are what make the tile so beautiful. If that isnt for you - there are some great porcelain machine made look a likes that offer both a lower price point and more uniformity throughout a tile batch.

They are known for being a low maintenance tile option and can stand the test of time with proper installation. Porcelain remains a popular option for its low maintenance, versatility, and durability.
