7. Area Rugs
Area rugs are your BFF. Period.
In a perfect world, the apartment gods would grant us all the gift of beautiful hardwood floors. But sometimes, that's just not in the cards. Adding an area rug (or layering two!) over your rugs will make a world of difference. Even if you have hardwood floors, adding area rugs, especially in a smaller space like a studio or apartment, will really help define different spaces. I'm also a big fan of rugs in the kitchen- it's nice on the feet and can be useful in sprucing up some not so beautiful linoleum floors. Just make sure you stray away from anything shaggy or high-pile that will shed, attract dirt, and will be hard to clean.
World to the wise: use double sided carpet tape or cactus gripper pad when layering carpets so they don't slip.
